History

In 1994, Susan Wang founded the Queensland World Dance Academy with a focus on classical ballet and oriental dance. These core disciplines would go on to build QWDA’s iconic identity.

The academy’s first major production, Cloud and Shadow, premiered at the Brisbane Suncorp Theatre in 1998. Kevin Rudd, a VIP guest, praised the performance as “unmatchable, a perfect bridging of Western and Eastern cultures, continually fulfilling and enriching Australia’s diverse multiculturalism.” This marked the beginning of QWDA’s rise to fame as a prominent multicultural force in events across Australia.

In 2007, QWDA made history by becoming the first registered training organisation in Australia to offer Certificate IV and Diploma courses in both Western and Eastern dance. This groundbreaking achievement solidified QWDA’s position as a leader in dance education. Today, QWDA is celebrated for professional excellence across all major dance forms and remains dedicated to nurturing exceptional dancers.
